Due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) that has disrupted some of our habitual Lenten approaches, and with a heavy heart, Bishop Soto decided to suspend the public celebration of Sunday and weekday masses and all other servcies for the whole Diocese of Sacramento effective immediately until further notice.
The church will be closed and probably the parish office will also be closed. If you want to contact me (Fr. Mervin) for any emergency, you may still call the office number or email the office. Weddings and funerals are allowed and limited to family only. The Bishop urges the faithful to keep Sunday, the Lord’s Day, by praying the rosary for the intention of all those afflicted by the virus, as well as for the sanctification of the Faithful and clergy during this Lenten season.
It may be helpful to remember that the church has overcome a similar crisis in the past. In 1918, with the Spanish Flu epidemic, schools, churches and places of social gathering were also closed. Even though the world faced a very serious epidemic, life returned to normal by 1919. This is a challenging time for us, but this is all the more reason for us to turn to God with our prayers.
